Branch Associations and Island Cafe
- Changing the World
2nd Studley (St Mary's) Brownies
We have done Island
Cafe, Brownies were wild about a beach party and had lots
of ideas.
We chose four islands Gibraltar, Anguilla, St Helena and the Falklands,
all different climates.
The girls then chose which island they wanted to represent and invited
parents and friends to come to an evening where they could get a taste
of island life.
Over the lead up weeks each group made a table decoration, some food from
the islands a display and learnt a related dance. Leaders and young
leaders performed the Macarena.
We Will Rock You and Hey Hey We're the Monkeys for Gibraltar, Agadoo for
Anguilla and 5678 for the country dance with for Falklands. Apparently
that's the popular music there. we padded it out with a couple of sketches
and Brownies songs.
On the day we held a workshop from 10a.m. to 3.15 p.m, where a set designer
came in and helped us make a back drop for the stage. We made food and
set up tables, rehearsed our entertainment and had a Samba workshop.
The event finished with the island cafe night where we invited our families
to attend.
We showed You Tube tourist clips of the islands and the girls gave out
4 guiding facts about branch associations in those remote places. We finished
the evening with us all doing the cha cha slide and a demonstration by the
girls led by the local samba drummers.
Hard work but a lot of fun.
Our evening was especially eventful as we had the delightful Lesley Knighton,
Chief Commissioner for the Midlands amongst our guests and all the girls
were presented with a Midlands Region Badge.

My Brownie lies over the ocean
My Brownie lies over the ocean
My Brownie lies over the sea
My Brownie lies over the ocean
I don't think she'll make it for tea
Chorus
Bring Back, bring back
Oh bring Back my brownie to me, to me
Bring Back, bring back
Oh bring Back my brownie to me, to me
Some Brownies lives out in Gibraltar
Some Brownies have smoothies for tea
Some Brownies share life with the monkeys
I hope you enjoy what you see
Chorus
Some Brownies live out in Anguilla
Sunshine and white sand and the sea
These Brownies like fruit rice and chicken
But wild storms and wild winds affect thee.
Chorus
The Brownies who live in Helena
Have no visitors, only by sea
One ship every six weeks from England
That's a long time to wait for your tea.
Chorus
For Brownies whose home is the Falklands
Its cold near the antartic sea.
Its fun to camp out in the summer
The Penguins make good company.
Chorus
So come meet our friends from the Islands
It's Guiding from over the seas
We share the same goals and commitment
To have some good fun with brownies.
Chorus
